Christmas Carols New and Old

Charlie Brown Christmas

Good feedback to my story about how hard it is for new Christmas/holiday carols and songs to break into the canon or the radio rotation. Unfortunately, they have all been e-mailed to me, so I will summarize:

My article was not about my opinion of these new carols or the old ones, I was trying to assess what has made it into the rotation and why it is so hard. But, yes, some of the new carols I mentioned are iffy and, yes, there are a host (pardon the pun) of well crafted ones by singer-songwriters and composers that will never make major rotation or be widespread. Emailers have offered good suggestions for some that should bust through into the elite club of carols, such as Ron Sexsmith's "Maybe This Christmas" and Greg Lake's 'I Believe in Father Christmas,' and I was pointed to Tori Amos' new disc, "Midwinter Graces."
