Response to readers on Bullock, decade, Gore

Aside to the reader who left me a voicemail message claiming that "Almost Famous" and "Wonder Boys" were movies from the 1990s.

"Almost Famous" opened here on Sept. 22, 2000, and "Wonder Boys" on Feb. 25, 2000. If you had left your name and phone number, I would have gladly called back.

Aside to the reader who left me a voicemail message insisting it was "bull----" to have included Sandra Bullock among the "power of personality" item in my decade round-up. Yes, as you said, Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet had terrific, Oscar-winning performances but their names alone don't draw moviegoers the way Bullock does.

She is a large reason why people flocked to see "The Proposal" and "The Blind Side" and she may have never been better than in "Crash," which cast her against type as a woman who was angry most of the time.

As for the readers who emailed or called to complain about the inclusion of "An Inconvenient Truth," I will never change your mind and you will not change mine. So I will leave it at that. Same applies for "Bowling for Columbine."
