Slatkin in trouble with 'Traviata'
Update: Slatkin leaves the Met production.
The story in the NY Times.
I suppose it was inevitable, but really, this seems an admission of error on Slatkin's part. Again, I hope he can cut back and find his groove in this post-heart-attack life for him. less is more and depth rather than breath would be the best course for him...

Did anyone catch the "situation" that the Pittsburgh Symphony's principal guest conductor, Leonard Slatkin, has been in as a guest conductor at the Metropolitan Opera, as reported in the New York Times?
As always, I admire Slatkin's honesty, here in admitting he had never conducted Verdi's "La Traviata" Slatkin's blog on the rehearsals makes it seem like he has never set foot in an opera hall (I know he has, but it seems this way from his posts), and the Met is hardly the place to learn. The Met is probably just as guilty here as Slakin for assigning this. This can't be good stress for a guy who just had a heart attack! Let's hope he gets out of there and focuses again on the orchestra rep and especially American music, where he is an expert...
