Caroline, no

Is anyone besides me bothered that Caroline Kennedy wants to be New York's next U.S. senator? I say this as someone who has admired the Kennedys and their accomplishments and who probably would match up well with her positions on issues. But does anybody know what they are?

Does anyone know her work ethic? Does anyone know if she could stand the grueling grind of public office and a life commuted between Washington and New York. (Does she even know?) And what about all those rubber chicken dinners in places like Schenectady and Fredonia? Here's the latest on her charmed life from The New York Times.

Caroline Kennedy has a name, a famous family, a tragic history and the sympathy of a nation. That doesn't make her qualified to join the world's greatest deliberative body. If she were announcing that she's running for election, I'd say go for it -- let the voters see what you're made of. But she's looking for an appointment from the governor to fill  the remainder of Hillary Clinton's term. Who knows what will happen after that? If I were a New Yorker, I'd want a work horse, not a show horse.
