Permanent improvement

PennDOT announced Thursday that it has completed a project to eliminate the bottleneck where the Parkway North merges with Interstate 79. Before the improvement, northbound parkway traffic had to merge into a single lane before entering I-79, causing backups at peak periods.

"This is a great improvement for motorists who use the Parkway North, especially during the evening peak period," said Dan Cessna, PennDOT District 11 executive.

A peak at the camera on PennDOT's 511 Web site revealed that traffic was zipping along on the new two-lane approach Thursday evening. Must've been nice for drivers who were accustomed to slowdowns.
