Penguins

-The Penguins had troubles with the Ryan Getzlaf-Corey Perry-Bobby Ryan line.

-Dustin Jeffrey and Tim Wallace each had a goal and an assist for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 5-4 comeback win against the Rochester Americans. Brad Thiessen made 24 saves in the victory.
-The Penguins matched a franchise record by winning their ninth-consecutive start of the season.
-Happy 65th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Darryl Edestrand (right). Acquired in the 1970 offseason along with Larry McKillop in a deal which sent Barry Ashbee to the Flyers, Edestrand spent parts of three seasons with the Penguins. After spending all of 1970-71 with the Penguins' AHL affiliate in Hershey, Edestrand appeared in 77 games with the Penguins during 1971-72 and scored 33 points. In that spring's postseason, he saw action in four games and recorded two assists. He followed that up in 1972-73 by setting career highs in games (78), goals (15) and points (39). After three games and no points in 1973-74, Edestrand was traded to the Bruins in exchange for Nick Beverly. In 158 regular season games with the Penguins, Edestrand scored 72 points, 101st-most in franchise history.
Atlantic Division

-Henrik Lundqvist made 33 saves and led the Rangers to a 3-0 shutout of the rival Devils. Brandon Dubinsky had two goals for New York while teammate Artem Anisimov recorded two assists.

-Grim times for Devils goaltender and former Penguin Johan Hedberg:

-Dubinsky tied Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos and Chicago's Patrick Sharp for the league lead with 10 goals.
-Despite playing the most games in the Eastern Conference (15), the Devils have scored the fewest goals (25).
-Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur did not play due to his ailing elbow. As a result, the Devils recalled goaltender Jeff Frazee from from Albany of the AHL.
-The Devils also activated defenseman Anton Volchenkov (concussion) from injured reserve, placed defenseman Matt Corrente (hand) on injured reserve and recalled defenseman Alexander Urbom from Albany of the AHL.
-It looks like Flyers forward Daniel Carcillo will avoid a suspension for elbowing Rangers forward and former Penguin Ruslan Fedotenko in the head Thursday.
Northeast Division

-Two goals by Benoit Pouliot (above) scored two goals for the Canadiens in a 3-2 win at Buffalo. Jeff Halpern added a goal and two assists for Montreal while teammate Mathieu Darche recorded two assists. Carey Price made 29 saves in the victory. Mike Grier led the Sabres with a goal and an assist.

-The Sabres are now 0-6-1 on home ice this season. It matches the 1993-94 team for worst start on home ice in franchise history.

-Canadiens forward Tomas Plekanec is dealing with an illness.
-Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf actually spent three nights in the hospital due to the laceration on his leg.
-The Senators demoted forward Zack Smith to Binghamton of the AHL.
Southeast Division
-Mike Green and Alex Ovechkin each recorded a goal and an assist for the Capitals in a 5-3 defeat of the Bruins. Nicklas Backstrom recorded two assists for Washington while Braden Holtby came on in relief of starter Michal Neuvirth and made four save to earn the victory.
-Two goals and an assist by Stephen Weiss led the Panthers to a 7-4 rout of the Hurricanes. Bryan Allen recorded three assists for Florida while teammates David Booth and Michael Frolik each netted a goal and an assist. Scott Clemmensen made 22 saves in the victory. Jay Harrison and Jussi Jokinen each recorded two assists for Carolina.

-With defenseman Jason Garrison dealing with a groin ailment, the Panthers recalled defenseman Keaton Ellerby from Rochester of the AHL.
-After getting smacked around by the Kings Thursday, Lightning forward Steve Downie is dealing with a back ailment.
Central Division
-Dan Cleary had a goal and two assists for the Red Wings in a 3-1 win at Edmonton. Jimmy Howard made 29 saves in the victory.

Northwest Division
-Niklas Backstrom made 33 saves and led the Wild to a 2-1 defeat of the Flames.
-The Avalanche recalled defenseman Colby Cohen and forward Kevin Porter from Lake Erie of the AHL.
-Canucks forward Raffi Torres is looking like a steal of a free agent signing.
Pacific Division
-Two goals and two assists by Loui Eriksson led the Stars to a 6-3 rout of the Coyotes. Brad Richards contributed two goals and an assist for Dallas while teammate Mike Ribeiro netted three assists. Kari Lehtonen made 25 saves in the victory. Lauri Korpikoski led Phoenix with a goal and an assist.

-Kings forward Ryan Smyth is expected to play in his 1,000th career game tonight.
Patrick Division
-Nathan Longpre had a goal and two assists for the Robert Morris men's team in a 4-2 win at Holy Cross.
-Daniel O'Donoghue had two goals and led the Mercyhurst men's team to a 6-2 win against Air Force.
-Today would've been the 88th birthday of former Pittsburgh Hornets forward Joe Klukay.
