-Hey, guess where we are:

-No, not quite:

-But EN reader Chris Dieter is and he has done a marvelous job of providing on-site photos. The ice:

-412 is well represented:

-Warm ups:

-The Penguins' starters are Sidney Crosby, Chris Kunitz, Maxime Talbot, Kris Letang, Paul Martin and Brent Johnson.

-Their scratches are Ben Lovejoy and Pascal Dupuis.

-The Stars' starters are Brenden Morrow, Jamie Benn, Mike Ribeiro, Nicklas Grossman, Stephane Robidas, and Kari Lehtonen.

-Their scratches are Krys Barch and Jeff Woywitka.

-With Eric Godard playing, we're kind of surprised to see Barch is scratched.

-We're excited to see Zbynek Michalek in the lineup. Even before his injury, Michalek seemed to get off to a slow start. We really think this guy can be a difference maker with his defense.

FIRST PERIOD

19:37: Crosby sneaks up the right wing and snaps of a wrister from deep in the corner. Stephane Robidas, one of the most underrated, all-around, toughest defensemen in the league, flops down and blocks the shot.

19:16: After Johnson mishandles the puck a bit behidn his own net, James Neal whips a wrister on net from the left wing. Johnson is able to scramble into position and eats up the shot.

18:50: Johnson denied Brad Richards in tight.

17:30: Comrie gets away with a bit of a hit from behind on Steve Ott in front of the Penguins' bench.

17:20: Ott looks like "Steve the Pirate" from Dodgeball:

16:58: Toby Petersen used to be a Penguin:

16:09: Put in FLEURY!!!!!! Morrow picks up a loose puck in the right wing corner, turns and distributes to Robidas at the right point. Robidas steps up and drives a one-timer at the net. A defender - either Michalek or Crosby according to Bob Errey - screens Johnson who can't find the puck and is beaten five hole. A bad gaol all-around to give up. Johnson kind of waves and shrugs his shoulders at whoever screened him. Morrow and Jamie Benn get assists. Stars 1-0.

{youtube width="480" height="385"}qTlLRVipUx4{/youtube}

14:30: Kunitz jabs a little shot on net. Lehtonen eats it up.

14:08: Johnson denied Petersen on a tough shot in tight.

12:03: And the Penguins just got plain out-worked there. Michalek specifically. Johnson and Michalek mishandle a dump-in behind the net. Loui Eriksson hustles back and out-battles Michalek for possesion. He moves it to Neal to the right of the cage. Neal then distributes to Richards who rockets a one-timer by the glove side shoulder of a helpless Johnson. Yeesh. Two goals and Michalek was on the ice for each of them. Neal and Eriksson get assists. Stars 2-0.

{youtube width="480" height="385"}qTlLRVipUx4{/youtube}

11:26: Richards puts a laser over the shoulder of Johnson and clangs it off the cross bar. The Stars are dominating this game right now.

9:14: Richards coasts up the left wing on a partial two-on-one with Neal against Letang. Letang slides down and really does a pretty poor job of taking away the passing lane. As Paul Martin skates back, the puck is fed to Neal who pushes a shot towards the net. Johnson is able to slide to his left and freezes the puck.

8:48: FYI, Matt Cooke is "moustache boy" for November.

8:00: Looks like the Michel Therrien' line-changer/bingo ball machine has been dusted off as Dan Bylsma has stuck Crosby, Kunitz and Evgeni Malkin together on a line.

6:46: Trevor Daley knocks Eric Godard to the ice away from the puck. That's two minutes for interfernce. Despite a sizeable scrum in the Stars' zone in the corner, no additional penalties are isused. Goligoski, Crosby, Malkin, Kunitz and Martin take the ice.

6:23: Play is halted as Adam Burish clips Malkin int he face with a stick.  Big chance heree for the penguins. Five on three for 1:37. Cromie, Malkin, Crosby, Kunitz and Goligoski take the ice.

6:10: Malkin cranks a big-one-timer from the right point. It hits a leg in front an defelcts away.

5:04: Malkin cranks another big slapper from the right point. It gets deflected wide.

4:57: From behind the net, Karlis Skrastins cranks a clear around the boards and out of the zone. Huge clear.

4:46: The Daley minor is killed. The penguins still have 23 seconds of power play time.

4:23: The Stars' 30th-ranked penalty kill successfully turns away the remainder of Burish's minor. What a disgrace for the Penguins. 0 for their last 25.

4:14: Letestu is nabbed for hooking Ribeiro. Matt Cooke, Craig Adams, Michalek and Brooks Orpik take the ice.

2:50: Ott atakes a pass int the neutral zone, blows by Letang, gains the offensive zone with speed and moves in on net. He rips a wrister to the far side and is robbed by Johnson's glove hand. That's inexcusable to give up that scoring chance.

2:14: The Letestu minor is killed.

1:45: Deryk Engelland dumps Brian Sutherby in the left wing corner in the Penguins' zone.

1:05: Crosby dumps Tom Wandell in the corner in the Penguins' zone and gets clipped in the face for his troubles. No call.

0:16: After Benn rattles Benn with a hit in front of the Stars' bench, Kennedy challenges Benn to a fight. They dropp the gloves. Kennedy throws a bunch of wilde rights and connects on a few. Kennedy slips and falls backwards with Benn on top. Nice statement play by Kennedy. Kennedy (5-foot-11, 183 pounds) showed some guts there too going after the slightly bigger Benn (6-foot-2, 208 pounds).

0:00: End of period. Stars 2, Penguins 0.

SECOND PERIOD

-What was that? After Saturday's tremendous team effort where everyone bought in and committed to defense, the Penguins come out with a lame effort like this? Inexcusable.

-Johnson is the only reason this isn't a 4-0 game. He has been left out to dry.

-The power play? A joke.

-Michalek has looked brutal so far. We're willing to forgive him given that it's his first game, but he needs to get things in order.

-Give the Stars credit, they took it to the Penguins. They have earned this lead.

-The Stars are dominating shots, 12-4.

-Richards leads the game with three.

-No one for the Penguins has more than one shot.

-Crosby leads the game with 8:23 of ice time.

-Robidas leads the Penguins with 7:34.

-The Penguins actually have an 11-10 lead in faceoffs (52 percent).

-Ribeiro is 5 for 6 (83 percent).

-Letestu is 2 for 3 (67 percent).

-Goligoski and Robidas each lead the game with three blocked shots.

SECOND PERIOD

18:21: Engelland and Ott appear to exchange their thoughts on the Bessborough Reservoir. We think.

17:42: Letang cross checks Petersen in the right wing corner int he Penguins' zone. Maxime Talbot, Cooke, Orpik and Michalek take the ice.

16:16: Richards strikes a one-timer from the right circle. Johnson fends it off.

16:06: Richards attempts a shot/pass from the right circle. Morrow is in the slot and re-directs it off the far post.  That could have ended the game right there.

15:42: The Letang penalty is killed. The Stars generated a few chances there.

15:16: Letang is smashed along the right wing boards in the Dallas' zone by Grossman.

14:10: After a furous Letang grips and rips a wrister from the left point. It's blocked in front.

13:43: Letang sneaks up the left wing and puts a wrister on net. Lehtonen makes the inital save, bobbles the rebound then snags it. Also, we're guessing it's used for the kiss cam, but we have to say, David Cassidy's "I Think I Love You" is an odd choice at a hockey arena:

13:40: Off a faceoff, The Penguins catch Lehtonen off guard and cash in. Talbot beats xxx on the faceoff. Kennedy beats Matt Niskanen to the loose puck and chops a backhander by the blocker of an unprepared Lehtonen. A huge ovation can be heard from the sizable contingent of Penguins fans on hand. Talbot gets the only assist.

13:05: Morrow is nabbed for knocks the stick out of Kennedy's hands. That's two minutes for slashing. Letang, Goligoski, Malkin, Crosby and Kunitz take the ice.

12:49: Just as Paul Steigerwald please for the Penguins to break their power play slump, Malkin manages to clear the zone with an errant pass.

12:36: A one-timer by Letang from above the left circle hits a body in front.

11:05: The Morrow penalty is killed. The Penguins actually created a few decent chances there.

10:50: Johnson denies Neal on a nice wrister.

10:28: Oh what a save! Cooke sneaks up the left wing and centers a pass to Kennedy moving up the slot. kennedy grips and rips a low wrister. Lehtonen boots it to the left circle. Talbot jumps on it and punches a low wrister. Lehtonen is able to slide to his right and boots it out. He gave up a bad rebound, but made up for it.

9:08: What in the world happened there. The Penguins just fell apart defensively there.  Deep in the right wing corner, Robidas is able to sneaks a pass in front of the crease to Ott who is all alone to the left of the cage. Ott chips it in behind a helpless Johnson into a wide open cage. Where was the defense on that? Robidas and Ribeiro get assists. Stars 3-1.

{youtube width="480" height="385"}qTlLRVipUx4{/youtube}

8:19: Crosby snaps off a backhander from the left wing and clinks it off the near post.

8:09: Eriksson gets behind the defense int he slot. Goligoski tackeles him to the ice and prevents the shot. Eriksson is awarded a penalty shot. He takes the puck, goes slightly to his left, apparoches the net, fakes Johnson badly and moves to his backhand. Johnson is badly out of position. Eriksson has 24 minutes to put it into the net and calmly deposits his backhander into the net. That was pretty sick. Stars 4-1.

{youtube width="480" height="385"}qTlLRVipUx4{/youtube}

7:29: Letang and Morrow drop the gloves. You don't want to see that as Letang is dealing with a bad hand. Thankfully, he doesn't land too many shots. Unfortunately, Morrow does land a few. They collapse to the ice. Letang utters a few four-letter words to Morrow in the penalty box. Steigerwald and Errey give a little bit of grief to Morrow for picking on Letang with his bad hand, but we can't imagine Morrow was aware of his ailment.

7:27: Off a faceoff, Crosby drops the gloves with Niskanen!?!? Uh wow. They mostly wrestly around with each player landing a few. They fall to the ice as well. Uh... wow. We figure something was going on as Godard and Rupp were each on the ice, but Crosby? Bylsma thens ticks Rupp, Godard, Engelland, Orpik and Adams on the ice.

7:16: Godard is called for elbowing Ott in front of the Penguins' bench. He goes to the penalty box and has to stand as they have run otu of seats. Talbot, Michalek, Orpik and Cooke take the ice.

5:32: Benn snaps off a wrister from the left wing. Johnson just gets a piece of it.

5:18: As the Stars are called for ap enalty, Daley and Brandon Segal jump Cooke behind the net. Another fight with Benn. This time with Kunitz. Kunitz lands a few impressive rights. They wrestle and tire out. Officals step in to break it up. In addition to the fighting majors, Segal gets two minutes for hooking Cooke. Four-on-four for two seconds.

5:15: The Penguins' power play begins.Kennedy, malkin, Martin, Letestu and Goligoski take the ice.

4:52: Martin chops a slapper from the right point. It's blocked by Burish.

4:02: Malkin unleashes a one-timer from the right circle. Lehtonen eats it up.

3:17: The Segal penalty expires.

3:08: Martin controsl the puck at the right point, moves towards the slot and releases a rising wrister towards the slot. Comries is to the right of the crease and appears to punch it in literally with his right glove. Officials call a goal but also immediately go to video replay. After a brief review, the goal is nullified. That's the right call. While that goes on, Letang retreats to the locker room. Ugh.

2:36: Coming back from commercial, the  Hatchers - Kevin and Derrian - are brothers:

2:17: Letestu is denied on a wraparound attempt by Lehtonen.

1:31: Goligoski snaps off a wrister from the right  point. It hits the near post.

1:16: Goligoski smacks a one-timer from the top of the slot. It hits a body in front.

0:00: End of period. Stars 4, Penguins 1.

SECOND INTERMISSION

-O...kay... what was that. Just a really bizarre 20 minutes of hockey. The Penguins appears to be in a position to tie the game after Kennedy's goal and the Morrow penalty then everything caved in. Then all the fights. Just really bizarre.

-It's nice that the Penguins are showing some heart and soul tonight through the fights, but why did they wait until they were down 4-1 to do so?

-You can't blame Johnson for this. He's basically been a shooter tutor tonight with his defense really playing poorly.

-Crosby and Malkin need to do something on offense.

-Mike Comrie is snake bit.

-Kennedy has been the Penguins' best player all night.

-This really isn't totally out of hand for the Penguins.

-Richards and Ott each lead the game with four shots.

-Kennedy leads the Penguins with three.

-The Stars have an 18-16 lead in shots.

-Robidas leads the game with 16:42 of ice time.

-Goligoski leas the Penguins with 16:05.

-The Penguins have a 23-20 lead in faceoffs.

-Ribeiro is 8 for 12 (67 percent).

-Crosby is 10 for 15 (67 percent).

-Goligoski, Robidas, Daley and Skrastins each lead the game with three blocked shots.

THIRD PERIOD

20:00: Letang has returned to the Penguins' bench.

18:08: Burish has a clean chance all alone in the crease and is denied point blank by Johnson. So much for the Penguins getting their defense in order for this period.

16:24: Ribeiro is denied on a wraparound attempt by Johnson. The Stars have controlled play for the first three and a half minutes of this period.

15:26: Kunitz jabs a quick wrister from the slot. Lehtonen fights it off. Before Kunitz can get to the rebound, Robidas dives and poke checks the puck away.

15:05: Goligoskin winds up and golfs a slapper from the right point. Lehtonen stretches out and gloves it.

14:53: Ott puts a quick wrister on net from the right wing. Johnson gloves it.

14:47: Well... so much for any hopes of a comeback. After Malkin wins the faceoff, Letang just loses the puck moves into the slot and whips a pedestrian wrister by Johnson's stick. That was bad for everyone involved. We don't know if Letang's hand/wrist is bothering him, but that was a really weak turnover.  Neal gets the only assist. Stars 5-1.

{youtube width="480" height="385"}qTlLRVipUx4{/youtube}

14:36: At least Kennedy is still playing all out. Neal has a chance to cente teh puck from the right wing but Kennedy slides butt-first towards the puck like a Slip 'N Slide and blocks the pass.

13:24: As Letestu knocsk away a scoring chance for Morrow in the slot. The Penguins go to the box again as Asham is called for holding Benn. Adams, Cooke, Orpik and Michalek take the ice..

13:22: Stars assitant coach Stu Barnes gets some love as a former Penguin:

{youtube width="4080" height="385"}MAI4FdfR7NU{/youtube}

13:10: The Stars are still attacking a clumbsy one-timer by Benn from the right circle is eaten up.

11:24: The Asham minor is killed. The Stars didn't really go all out with that two minutes.

10:48: Lehtonen eats up a shot by Kunitz.

8:52: Asham gets away with a bit of a slash on Grossman.

7:54: Asham knocks Eriksson into the Stars' bench. That's two minutes for hooking.  Morrow is also nabbed for slashing Asham. Four-on-four.

7:35: Goligoski winds up and drives a slapper on net from the right point. It hits a body or two in front. Letestu has a chance on a rebound but can't cleanly handle it.

7:30: Errey and Steigerwald reference former Stars defenseman Craig Ludwig and his ridiculous shin pads:

5:54: Asham and Morrow return to play.

4:24: THE COMEBACK IS ONNNNNN!!!!! Niskanene turns the puck over bheind his own net. Michalek intercepts the puck and moves it to Cooke. Cooke chips a little wrister which squirts through Lehtonen's gear. A sloppy goal for the Stars to give up regardless of the score. Solid effort by the Penguins to force the turn over. Michalek makes amends somewhat for his sloppy play early. Michalek gets the only assist. Stars 5-2.

3:23: Richards guns a rocket of a one-timer from the right circle. Johnson stands up and fights it off with his chest. Johnson is smarting a bit after that.

0:48: A wrister by Kunitz from the slot is wide on the near side.

0:19: Another penalty. Why not? Engelland is called for slashing Benn. Talbot, Orpik, Cooke and Michalek take the ice.

0:00: End of game. Stars 5, Penguins 2.

POSTGAME

-Remember how wonderful and positive the team effort in Carolina was? Well this was pretty much the exact opposite. This was a complete cave in. Yeah, they showed some guts and stood up for themselves midway through the second period, but it was too late by that time.

-To say the least, inconsistency seems to be an issue with the 2010-11 Penguins. Up one game. Down one game.

-We guess Marc-Andre Fleury isn't looking nearly as horrible as he was before tonight. And we're not blaming Johnson whatsoever for this. But it's amazing how a strong or weak defense can impact how you view goaltending huh?

-How critical was that failed five-on-three in the first period?

-Tyler Kennedy seemed like he was the only Penguin who showed up tonight for the entire game.

-Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin were mostly invisible outside of Crosby's fight.

-Michalek didn't have the best return but we're willing to forgive him given the rust.

-Don't take anything away from the Stars. They attacked the Penguins offensively and more than earned this win.

-Richards is a beast. He looks like he's playing for a contract, which he is.

-Stephane Robidas is a player.

-The Stars ended up with a 29-23 lead in shots.

-Richard and Ott each led the game with five.

-Kunitz, Kennedy and Malkin each led with three.

-Robidas led the game with 24:24.

-Goligoski led the Penguins with 24:03.

-The Penguins led the game in faceoffs, 30-28 (52 percent).

-Crosby was 10 for 16 (63 percent).

-Ribeiro is 9 for 15 (60 percent).

-Goligoski and Robidas each led with five blocked shots.

-Talbot moved past Letang an Dean Prentice for 87th place on the team's all-time scoring list. Talbot and Letang each have 90 points, but Talbot (46) has more goals than Letang (47). Prentice has 89 points.

-Kennedy moved past Pascal Dupuis for 92nd place. Kennedy has 84 points to Dupuis' 83.

-Jake Whitco was on hand and sent some photos throughout the game. We were unable to post them during the blog, but better late than never. Big D:

-The national anthem:

-These Mike Modano and Neal Broten jerseys are from the Stars earliest days in Dallas:
