Staal to undergo hand surgery - 11-01-10

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

This just keeps getting better.

Jordan Staal, expected to return to the lineup Wednesday in Dallas from a foot injury, will be sidelined another six weeks due to a broken hand. He will have surgery to correct the injury.

EN Says: Staal must've walked under a ladder with a black cat or something because this run of cruddy luck is just ridiculous.

On the other hand, we wonder if this is a blessing for him in some fashion. He did not get a chance to skate all summer due to his foot ailment. He really had not been able to start skating until last month. Does he get a better chance to re-build his leg strength with an additional six weeks?

And this give Mike Comrie a stay of execution in some sense. With Staal back to presumably take over as the No. 2 center, Comrie would have been expendable.
