From Columbus with love

I blogged about a visit to the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, you can read about it here. It's such an incredible place. We watched as an artist made a glass vase by hand as a demonstration. It was my birthday so when I was up in the gift shop I asked if they ever sell the demos.

Kathy Steedman who runs the gift shop among other things at the conservatory took my name and number and said she'll see what she can do.

After a couple weeks I figured it just wasn't going to happen. Then I got an e-mail from her, the vase needed some finish work, would be ready soon and was $35 plus shipping.

I jumped at the chance to get something handmade that I watched being created on my 51st birthday. I thought it was so thoughtful of her to follow the process through, even though I haggled with her hard for a couple pots!

The vase will be filled with dahlia, geraniums and anemone for as long as they last in the garden.

And every time I look at it, I'll think of a wonderful trip to Columbus to see their crown jewel of gardens.
