Penguins

-How did the Penguins get Comrie so cheap?

-The Penguins shot some footage for HBO yesterday:

-The Blackhawks are scheduled to start goaltender Corey Crawford tonight against the Penguins.

-The Pensblog offers a pretty thorough look at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins' forwards.

-John Curry, Corey Potter, Steve Wagner, Chris Conner, Tim Wallace and Brett Sterling all cleared waivers and reported to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

-Wilkes-Barre/Scranton forward Geoff Walker makes his living around the net.

-Happy 43rd birthday to former Penguins forward Scott Young (right). Acquired midway through the 1990-91 season in a deal which sent Rob Brown to the Hartford Whalers, Young's Penguins' career amounted to 43 games and 27 points that campaign. In the spring, the appareared in 17 playoff games and score seven points while winning his only Staney Cup ring. After spending most of the 1991-92 season playing in Italy as well as for the United States Olympic team, Young was dealt at the 1992 trade deadline in a deal which brought Bryan Fogarty from the Quebec Nordiques.

-Happy 22nd birthday to former Penguins forward Luca Caputi (right). A fourth-round pick in 2007, Caputi spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. As a rookie in 2008-09, he appeared in five games and scored one goal. In four games last season, Caputi scored two points. At the 2010 trade deadline, Caputi and Martin Skoula were traded to the Maple Leafs in exchange for Alexei Ponikarovsky. In nine games with the Penguins, Ponikarovsky scored three points.

-Happy 36th birthday to former Penguins forward Domenic Pittis. A second-round pick in 1993, Pittis' Penguins career amounted to one game and no points in 1996-97. In the 1998 offseason, he joined the Sabres as a free agent.

Atlantic Division

-Devis defenseman Bryce Salvador is dealing with an undisclosed injury believed to be a concussion.

Northeast Division

-Luke Adam had two goals for the Sabres in a 5-3 win at Montreal. Teammate Tyler Myers added two assists while Jhonas Enroth (above, with Montreal's Mathieu Darche) made 28 saves in the victory.

-Buffalo defenseman Mike Weber, a Pittsburgh native, fought Montreal pest Maxim Lapierre:

-"I tried to use my head to hurt him." - Senators forward and former Penguin Alex Kovalev on being on the wrong end of a one-sided fight with Toronto's Francois Beauchemin Wednesday:

Southeast Division

-Carolina forward Sergei Samsonov (neck) was placed on injured reserve.

-The Hurricanes named defenseman Tim Gleason and Brandon Sutter as alternate captains.

-The Lightning demoted forwards Marc-Antoine Pouliot and Niklas Persson to Norfolk of the AHL.

-The Capitals demoted goaltender Braden Holtby and defenseman Lawrence Nycholat to Hershey of the AHL and returned forward Cody Eakin (Swift Current - WHL) to his junior team.

-Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has a new spooky commercial:

-Panthers defenseman Dmitry Kulikov is dealing with a foot injury.

Central Division

-Alexander Steen had a goal and an assist for the Blues in a 4-1 win against the Blackhawks. Teammate Brad Boyes had two assists while Jaroslav Halak (above) made 30 saves in the victory.

-Halak and teammate David Backes had issues:

-Chicago's John Scott and St. Louis' Brad Winchester had issues:

-So did Chicago's Kyle Beach and St. Louis' B.J. Crombeen:

-Chicago's Marty Turco kept his eyes on this puck:

-Ethan Moreau and Samuel Pahlsson each had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets in a 4-2 win at Minnesota. Steve Mason made 24 saves in the victory. Andrew Brunette led Minnesota with two assists.

-Minnesota's Cal Clutterbuck got upended big time here by Columbus' Anton Stralman:

-The Blackhawks recalled forward Brandon Pirri from Rockford of the AHL and demoted Alec Richards to Rockford.

-The Red Wings demoted forwards Jamie Johnson, Francis Pare, Brent Raedeke, Tomas Tatar and goaltender Jordan Pearce to Grand Rapids of the AHL.

-The Predators demoted goaltender Mark Dekanich to Milwaukee of the AHL.

-The Blues demoted goaltender Ben Bishop to Peoria of the AHL.

Northwest Division

-The Oilers put defenseman Sheldon Souray and goaltender Martin Gerber on waivers.

-Edmonton also demoted defenseman Taylor Chorney, Jeff Petry, Alex Plante and forward F Colin McDonald to Oklahoma City of the AHL.

Pacific Division

-A goal and an assist from Brenden Morrow led the Stars to a 2-1 defeat of the Avalanche. Kari Lehtonen (above) earned the win by making 22 saves.

-Dallas' Steve Ott stretching prior to the game:

-The Ducks placed defensemen Brett Festerling and D Danny Syvret on waivers.

-The Coyotes demoted forwards Mikkel Boedker, Andrew Ebbett and Viktor Tikhonov to San Antonio of the AHL.

-The Stars put goaltender Brett Krahn on waivers.

Patrick Division

-Former Canadiens/Canucks/Flyers/Capitals/Rangers forward Donald Brashear has joined Sorel-Tracy GCI of the LNAH in Quebec.
