Penguins

Atlantic Division

-Shootout goals by Claude Giroux and Daniel Briere (above) led the Flyers to a 4-3 win against the Maple Leafs.  Nikolai Zherdev had two goals in regulation for the Flyers while Giroux added two assists. Brian Boucher stopped three shootout shots to earn the win. Dion Phaneuf and Kris Versteeg each had a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs.

-The Devils demoted goaltender Dave Caruso, defensemen Mark Fayne, Dan Kelly, Tyler Miller, Chris Murray, Harry Young, forwards Matt Anderson, Jean-Sebastien Berube, Adam Henrique, Trevor Kell, Kory Nagy, Nathan Perkovich, Louis Robitaille, Myles Stoesz and Darcy Zajac to Albany of the AHL and returned goatlenders Maxime Clermont (Gatineau - QMJHL), Thomas Nesbitt (Ottawa - OHL),  Shane Owen (Moncton - QMJHL) and Scott Wedgewood (Plymouth - OHL) to their junior teams.

-Islanders forward Kyle Okposo (right) is dealing with an ailing shoulder.

-The Rangers demoted goaltenders Jordan Parise, Cameron Talbot, defensemen Lee Baldwin, Sam Klassen, Tomas Kundratek, Jyri Niemi, Blake Parlett, Nigel Williams and forwards Chris Chappell, Devin DiDiomete, Brodie Dupont, Ryan Garlock, Chris McKelvie, Justin Soryal and Kelsey Tessier to Hartford or the AHL and returned Daniel Maggio (Sudbury - OHL), Dylan McIlrath (Moose Jaw - WHL), forwards Ryan Bourque (Quebec - QMJHL), Roman Horak (Chilliwack - WHL), Randy McNaught (Saskatoon -WHL), Christian Thomas (Oshawa - OHL), Ethan Werek (Kingston - OHL), Jason Wilson (Owen Sound - OHL), Andrew Yogan (Erie - OHL) and goaltender Scott Stajcer (Owen Sound, OHL) to their junior teams.

Northeast Division

-Robert Mayer made 18 saves for the Canadiens in a 4-2 win against the rival Senators.

-Funny Face of the Night: Montreal's Mathieu Carle trying to defend Ottawa's Mike Fisher:

-We don't want to say Montreal's Ryan White was invading the personal space of Ottawa's Pascal Leclaire, but...

-Montreal's David Desharnais is either really small, or he has some sort of bizarre arm pit-related celebration with Andrei Kostitsyn:

-Mayer kept his eyes on this puck:

-The Bruins returned forwards Craig Cunningham (Vancouver - WHL), Jared Knight (London - OHL) and defensemanRyan Button (Prince Albert - WHL), to their junior clubs. The team also demoted forwrards Kirk MacDonald, Jordan Knackstedt, Lane MacDermid, and Jeff Penner to Providence of the AHL. Defenseman Joe Rullier was released from a tryout contract.

-Ottawa's Mike Fisher makes an appereance in the latest music video of his wife, Carrie Underwood. Sort of:

-The Maple Leafs signed forward Andrew Crescenzi to a three-year entry-level contract. He was in camp on try-out basis. The team also returned forward Greg McKegg (Erie - OHL) to his junior team.

Southeast Division

-The Lightning returned forwards Carter Ashton (Regina - WHL), Brett Connolly (Prince George - WHL) and Richard Panik (Belleville - OHL) to their junior teams.

-"I got sick of constantly waiting for my chance and then being used to plug holes in the roster." - Former Penguins forward Chris Bourque on why he left the Capitals and joined Atlant of the KHL.

Central Division

-Former Penguin Ty Conklin made 21 saves for the Blues in a 5-0 shutout of the Wild. Fire Ray Shero. David Perron and Alex Steen each scored two goals while teammates B.J. Crombeen and Roman Polak each recorded two assists.

-It was a rough night for Cuma. Porter got the drop on him as well:

-Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings in a 3-2 defeat of the rival Blackhawks. Jimmy Howard made seven saves in the victory. Jeremy Morin and Brandon Pirri led Chicago with a goal and an assist each.

-Mark Dekanic made six saves for the Predators in a 2-1 defeat of the Hurricanes.

-Former Penguins defenseman Bob Boughner is getting a crack behind an NHL bench as an assistant coach with the Blue Jackets.

-Blackhawks forward Jack Skille, a first-round pick in 2005, is running out of chances to stick in the NHL.

-Blue Jackets defenseman Grant Clitsome suffered a "lower body" injury last night.

Northwest Division

-Wild goaltender Josh Harding suffered a right knee injury during last night's game against the Blues:

-Bad times for Harding:

-The Houston Aeros, the Wild's AHL affiliate, is bringing former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Aaron Boogaard to training camp on a tryout basis.

-Oilers defenseman and former Penguin Ryan Whitney is still adjusting to his re-aligned right foot.

-The Flames demoted forwards Carter Bancks, Lance Bouma, Bryan Cameron, Hugo Carpentier, Kris Chucko, Ryley Grantham, Logan MacMillan, Gaelan Patterson, Mitch Wahl, J.D. Watt, defensemen Chris Breen, Josh Meyers, Giffen Nyren and goaltender J.P. Lamoureaux to Abbotsford of the AHL.

Pacific Division

-A hat trick by Corey Perry helped the Ducks edge the Sharks, 5-4. Ryan Getzlaf added four assists for Anaheim while teammate Jake Newton had a goal and an assist. Timo Pielmeier made 22 saves in the victory. Joe Pavelski led San Jose with three assists.

-Bloddy times for Anaheim's Aaron Voros:

-The Coyotes demoted defensemen Mathieu Brodeur, Jeff May, Nick Ross, forwards Justin Bernhardt, Colin Long, Peter MacArthur and goaltender Joe Fallon to San Antonio of the AHL.

-Stars forward Jere Lehtinen (right) is still up in the air on whether he wants to retire or not.

Patrick Division

-Former Avalanche forward Marek Svatos has joined Avangard Omsk of the KHL.

-ESPN Radio 1250 appears to be on its way out the door.
