Fewer and fewer - 09-09-10

According to Chris Botta of AOL Fanhouse, former Penguins forward Richard Park (right), who has spent the past four seasons with the Islanders, has left the NHL after 15 seasons to join a team in Sweden. Park, a second-round pick by the Penguins spent parts of the first three seasons of his career in Pittsburgh.

His exit from the NHL brings a sobering reality.

There aren't very many former teammates of Mario Lemieux left in the NHL.

Only 22 players (including three unrestricted free agents) who can claim they played in a game with Lemieux are still in the league. That's barely a full NHL roster.

The players and their current teams:

  • Nolan Baumgartner, D, Canucks
  • Matt Bradley, RW, Capitals
  • Erik Christensen, C, Rangers
  • Sidney Crosby, C, Penguins
  • Shean Donovan, RW, Free Agent
  • Andrew Ference, D, Bruins
  • Marc-Andre Fleury, G, Penguins
  • Sergei Gonchar, D, Senators
  • Johan Hedberg, G, Devils
  • Alex Kovalev, RW, Senators
  • Tom Kostopoulos, RW, Hurricanes
  • Robert Lang, C, Free Agent
  • Ryan Malone, LW, Lightning
  • Brooks Orpik, D, Penguins
  • Toby Petersen, C, Stars
  • Wayne Primeau, C, Free Agent
  • Mark Recchi, RW, Bruins
  • Michal Rozsival, D, Rangers
  • Mikael Samuelsson, RW, Canucks
  • Rob Scuderi, D, Kings
  • Maxime Talbot, C, Penguins
  • Ryan Whitney, D, Oilers
