Penguins

-Former Penguins defenseman John Slaney has joined HC Plzen in the Czech Republic. He joins another former Penguin, Martin Straka.

-Former Penguins forward Chris Bourque explains his decision to join HK Atlant in the KHL.

-Former Penguins forward Barry Pederson will be inducted into the Nanaimo (B.C.) Sports Hall of Fame. Pederson was a member of the franchise's 1991 Stanley Cup championship team.

Atlantic Division

-Devils forward Ilya Kovalchuk's (right) new 17-year, $102 million contract, the longest in NHL history, has a no-trade clause until 2017.

-"I'm not surprised. Three years in a row we thought we had a chanceĀ and we were out of the playoffs in the first round. They're trying to change things up. It's obviously a huge move." - Devils forward Dainius Zubrus on the signing.

-Devils forward Brian Rolston could be a salary cap casualty of the Kovalchuk signing.

-Are contracts like Kovalchuk's an abuse of the salary cap system?

-Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune pretty much accuses Devils overlord Lou Lamoriello of abusing the same collective bargaining agreement he helped write five years ago.

-"When you stay there more than a decade you start to get familiar with the area. You build friendships with the players, the training staff and all the people working for the Flyers. The organization becomes like your family a little bit. But you have to understand that hockey is a business and that is the way it is. -The Rangers acquired defenseman Matt McCue from the Ducks in exchange for forward Tomas Zaborsky.

Southeast Division

-Lightning captain Vincent Lecavalier helped recruit his friend, Gagne, on coming to Tampa Bay.

-The Hurricanes signed forward Riley Nash to a three-year, entry-level contract. A first-round pick by the Oilers in 2007, Nash came to the Hurricanes in a trade last month.

Central Division

-Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman shot down rumors he was shopping forward Patrick Sharp (right).

-Chicago forward and former Penguin Marian Hossa got married. Former Penguins Richard Lintner and Miroslav Satan attended the ceremony.

-The Blues re-signed restricted free agent forward Ryan Reaves to a one-year, two-way contract.

Pacific Division

-The Kings' final offer to Ilya Kovalchuk was 15 years for $80 million.

-"We threw everything at him we had while leaving the cap space necessary to sign our kids. He is a great player and I am disappointed he didn't come to LA. It was not for lack of effort or cash." - Kings owner Tim Leiweke on Kovalchuk.

Smythe Division

-Former Rangers forward Jeff Ulmer has joined Metallurg Novokuznetsk of the KHL.
