I visited the Erie Zoo and Botanical Garden and was blown away by the plantings and design all supervised by head horticulturalist Jeff Carey. The soft spoken gardener came to the zoo over 20 years ago and has tranformed it into a lush oasis. One of the highlights of his job is working with the high school and college aged people that work all summer for him.
It's only two hours from Pittsburgh and well worth the ride to see the trees, shrubs and other plantings. Oh, yeah don't forget about all the cool animals too.
