Lightning brings back Kubina - 07-02-10
The Lightning are going back the future. Tampa Bay has re-signed former defenseman Pavel Kubina to a two-year deal worth a total of $7.7 million. He will have an annual salary cap hit of $3.85 million.
Last season with the Thrashers, Kubina appeared in 76 games and recorded 38 points (six goals, 32 assists) and was an even plus/minus.
Kubina, 33, returns to Tampa Bay where he won the Stanley Cup in 2004.
EN Says: This would've been a good signing four or five years ago, but Kubina is a much older player than he was when he initally left Tampa Bay.
He bring a great shot from the point and plenty of offensive ability. However, despite his size (6-foot-5, 245 pounds), he's not an overly physical player. And his skating isn't ideal.
That said, assuming the Lightning doesn't expect him to be more than a No. 3 of 4 defenseman, he should fit in.
