A double delight

Breeders are having a ball with echinacea or purple coneflower. I planted lots of 'Double Delight' echinacea last year and they have just begun to bloom.
These are tough plants that like full sun. In my garden they don't get the light they want so the flop over, but actually still look great. Butterflies love the blooms too.
You can see a little slug damage on the flower from being so close to the ground.
The key to keeping them blooming is to cut them back when the flowers fade, it's called deadheading. Last year after being cut back, the flowers bloomed well into fall.
Purple coneflowers can be white, orange, yellow, pink and sometimes even purple. Find a cool one and try it out in the garden, they are beautiful and indestructible.
