Coyotes sign Ray Whitney - 07-01-10
One of the best wingers available and a player the Penguins supposedly targeted is off the board.
Former Hurricanes forward Ray Whitney has signed with the Coyotes for two years at $3 million per season.
In 80 games with the Hurricanes, Whitney, 38, scored 58 points (21 goals, 58 assists) and was a minus-6.
He will be entering his 19th season in the NHL. He spent the past five seasons with Carolina and won the Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006.
EN Says: Nice affordable signing for the Coyotes. Whitney gives them instant scoring depth up front where they were a little light. Whitney is a very, very intelligent player who makes those around him better. And despite his age, he's a pretty durable player.
