Lightning sign St. Louis to extension - 07-01-10

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

The Lightning have re-signed former Hart Trophy winning forward Martin St. Louis to a four-year extension worth a total of $22.5 million. It will have an annual salary cap hit of $5.625 million.

St. Louis is still under contract for one more year from his previous deal. In 82 games last season, St. Louis scored 94 points (29 goals, 65 assists), sixth most in the NHL.

EN Says: The Lightning avoids a lot of headaches next summer by making this move. It locks up a cornerstone of the franchise and keeps one of the most dynamic, complete players in the NHL happy.

And considering St. Louis is still one of the top 15 players in the NHL, $5.625 million isn't too bad of a cap number.
