More pelican aid

After reading the June 26 story "Gulf Waterfowl Getting Helping Hands," I could not help but think how you missed mentioning the wonderful program I recently attended where engineering students at Carnegie Mellon sent more than 20 boxes of cleaning materials to Gulf volunteers for the endangered brown pelicans.

The program, Pelican Plight: Saving the Bayou Birds, enlisted donations from more than 15 area companies and featured the Pittsburgh Penguins mascot helping stuff care packages June 24 with Dawn detergent, rubber gloves and paper towels requested by volunteers in Venice, La.

We love the brown pelicans and wish them well.
