Nonsense, not news

on

In response to Marguerite Mott's letter defending PG columnist Jack Kelly ("More Jack Kellys," June 20):

Contrary to what Ms. Mott may believe, Mr. Kelly is not a breath of fresh air to journalism.

For her to think so would lead me to suggest that she tune into Fox News if she feels that Mr. Kelly's viewpoints are not frequently articulated. However, with the views on our nation that Ms. Mott went on to express in her letter, I'd be surprised if she were not already a faithful and fearful viewer of Fox News programming.

Ms. Mott's call for more reporters to "investigat[e] the Marxist takeover of our republic" and "inform [the public] of the pro-Muslim and anti-American rhetoric coming from this White House" not only illustrates shortsightedness and ignorance of public affairs, but also provides the perfect example for how the line between investigative and tabloid journalism has been blurred beyond distinction.

I welcome Jack Kelly's columns every week, as I do all viewpoints I disagree with, as a crucial aspect to a fully informed and intelligent public. But occasionally I read something that makes me question how informed and intelligent the public is.
