The Gateway football team now has three seniors headed to Division I colleges.

Gateway running back-defensive back Orne Bey made a verbal commitment today to Miami, Ohio, of the Mid-American Conference. Bey (5 feet 9, 175 pounds) plays running back and defensive back for Gateway and was recruited by Miami to play slotback or running back. Bey is Gateway's leading rusher and averaging close to 10 yards a carry.

Bey, pictured to the left, was a reserve on Gateway's team last year, playing mostly special teams. But he has shined this season.

"I sent a film to Miami, and their head coach, Mike Haywood, I knew him when he was at Texas because they were recruiting Justin [King of Gateway]," said Gateway coach Terry Smith. "He called me personally and offered Orne and Dayonne."

Dayonne is Dayonne Nunley, a Gateway receiver-defensive back who committed to Miami a few weeks ago. Both players made official visits to Miami. Gateway's other senior headed to a Division I college is running back/receiver/defensive back Brendon Felder, who committed to the University of North Carolina earlier this season.

Smith believes linebacker-offensive guard Delbert Tyler (6-0, 230) also might end up being recruited by a Division I college or two. He also believes lineman Mitch Devall (6-1, 320) has an outside shot at being Division I.

"Delbert has a legitimate shot, especially when people watch the film from the North Hills game," Smith said of Friday's WPIAL semifinal. "He had 21 tackles in that game. It was the best I ever saw him play. Plus, he has played offensive guard for us full time."
