Another early exit for Aliquippa

It was a little suprising two seasons ago when the Aliquippa basketball team was knocked out of the WPIAL playoffs in the first round. Then it happened again Wednesday night when Aliquippa lost to Jeannette.

So, it's two times in three years that the Quips have lost in the first round. That is shocking when you look at Aliquippa's program over the past 30 years.

Since 1980, Aliquippa has been in the playoffs 30 times. During that time, Aliquippa has played in the WPIAL championship game 12 times and made it to the semifinals seven other times. Besides 2008 and 2010, only two other times did Aliquippa lose in the first round (1982 and 1990).

It certainly looks like Aliquippa's program has fallen. A natural question is what does the future hold? There is a question of whether coach Marvin Emerson will return. Emerson seriously thought about not coming back this season. His future might be a year-to-year thing.

Will Marvin Emerson come back as Aliquippa's coach?

As for players, leading scorer Troy Jeter is only a junior. Zach Hooks, a 6-7 center, also is only a junior. The Quips might get better in the future, but they don't have the individual talent they used to have. They also have a ways to go before reaching the elite status the program once enjoyed.
