Well-known national talent scout Tom Lemming (CBS College Sports and Maxpreps.com) recently released his top 100 football players for the class of 2011. No WPIAL player was on the list.
This just lends more credence that the class of 2011 in the WPIAL is average, at best. There just isn't much depth in terms of players who are Division I college caliber.
Maybe the most-heavily recruited player is West Allegheny running back-defensive back Mike Caputo. But he didn't make the list. The only players on Lemming's top 100 are Harrisburg Bishop McDevitt running back Jameel Poteat (No. 50) and Oil City tight end Ben Koyack (No. 53 and a Notre Dame recruit). I don't think the class of 2011 is very good overall in the entire state of Pennsylvania.
But don't put too much stock in the top 100 list. There are countless players who haven't been top 100 in high school, but make it big on the college level and also do well in the NFL.
Player in critical condition after crash
Last December, Seth Lauver scored the winning touchdown for Selinsgrove in the Class AAA state championship football game against Manheim Central. Today, he is fighting for his life.
Lauver is in critical condition after a car accident the night of Selinsgrove's prom. The Daily Item in Sunbury has the story.
