An angel to me
It was with great personal sadness that I read of the loss of Dolores Bold ("Grande Dame of Pittsburgh Society," April 29 news obituary).
I recall the moment as if it were yesterday. Having lost my husband suddenly two weeks previous and en route to a meeting, I encountered Mrs. Bold entering the William Penn Hotel lobby as I was exiting, having just emerged from the ladies room in an attempt to compose myself. Perhaps sensing my sorrow, perhaps just displaying her well-known effervescence, she grabbed me in a spontaneous hug, smiled radiantly and told me I was gorgeous.
Although I had been feeling anything but, she had just given a perfect stranger a much-needed boost and the strength to see me through the meeting, and beyond.
Godspeed, Mrs. Bold. With your passing, the angels have truly reclaimed their own.
