Why appease factions that would rejoice in our destruction?

Written by Susan Mannella on .

Dan Simpson's May 12 column "Can the Mideast Be Nuke-Free?" is a case study of "beating a dead horse." Please, Mr. Simpson, show us any past case of negotiation where a threatening Muslim faction or nation actually acted responsibly or honored any treaty or concession made to them.

We continue to reward threats and demands by Arab-Muslims (as we have in the past), which only legitimizes their unending and unwavering demands. The historical record of past negotiations shows that no appeasement by Israel or any other nation will ever quell Arab-Muslim demands or their aggressive behavior.

It is in true political desperation that our president demands that Israel again make concessions as it has in the past, but it won't "solve" anything. Have we already forgotten that the death and destruction of 9/11 brought celebration and dancing in the streets throughout much of the Muslim world?

It is a frightening specter, but we are trying to appease people who, if given the nuclear capability, would vaporize all of New York City or Israel in a heartbeat.
