Bland replacement
We agree with the sentiment that Mellon Arena has been an important presence in the city of Pittsburgh. The new Consol Energy Center is a cookie-cutter-designed warehouse with different external facades for each of the cities in which these "big box" arenas were placed.
We just wonder why the designers of our new center didn't incorporate some kind of large, three-dimensional stainless steel dome likeness on one or two of the faces of the building. This could have easily been done to pay tribute to the architectural wonder that the Consol Energy Center is replacing. Someone really needed to "think out of the box."
