Hostile neighbors

Written by Susan Mannella on .

"Can the Mideast Be Nuke-Free?" (May 12) by Dan Simpson, while quite disturbing, was not the least bit surprising to anyone who reads the PG every day. Mr. Simpson has been undauntable, persistent and unwavering in his frequent anti-Israel op-ed articles. I do not recall even one moderately favorable comment about any aspect of Israeli politics or international endeavors that he has ever made.

If the two dozen hostile Arab countries in the Mideast did not believe that Israel possesses nuclear weapons, there can be no doubt that they would have undertaken another combined military onslaught to literally destroy and eradicate this tiny Jewish nation, the only true democracy in the Mideast and the only country in that entire region that the United States can safely and comfortably rely upon as an ally.

But, of course, since Mr. Simpson is certainly no fool, he would be fully aware of this dire consequence if Israel were to give up its nuclear armamentarium.
