Loss of clout

Written by Susan Mannella on .

Although it is easy to understand why voters are disgruntled, the voters of Pennsylvania may have caused the state more harm than good by defeating Arlen Specter.

Incumbent senators and members of Congress who belong to powerful Senate and congressional committees have the ability to assist the states they represent in these difficult economic times. How much of your federal tax money has been funneled back to Pennsylvania in the form of road improvements, education, health and pet projects in your own community because of Arlen Specter?

You are replacing someone who has spent 30 years on the Hill with an individual who will not have the political clout of Mr. Specter. Unless every other state does the same, which is highly unlikely, you have accomplished nothing.
