Local politics

Written by Susan Mannella on .

People of Pittsburgh, wake up! I read the PG's front-page story "Jury Charges Legislature 'Utterly Incapable' of Reform" (May 25) with total disgust.

We are the ultimate jury, but only 30 percent of us vote. So why should legislators care what we think (if we do), since they're given free rein by the majority who don't vote? And where does it say a registered Democrat must vote for a Democrat?

And then I turn the page to the Local section and "pow," right between the eyes, I see that Mayor Luke Ravenstahl anoints his brother to be on the Alcosan board ("Nomination Could Face Opposition When It Goes Before City Council," May 25).

Wake up, people of Pittsburgh. Your vote isn't counting, and your kids and their kids will pay dearly because you are a Democrat. I am not and I am proud of it!

It seems the politicians wave the flag singing "My Country 'Tis of Thee" and "God Bless America" and I say, why should he (or she) care when we ourselves don't really care?

We have eyes but do not see. We have brains but do not think.
