Nuke the well

Written by Susan Mannella on .

It is obvious that taking control of the oil flowing out of the leak a mile below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico is beyond the capability of BP, and probably of state and federal agencies, as well. Skimming, dispersing chemically, sucking through a mile-long straw and all the rest has done little to stem the flow of crude oil.

The unrestrained gusher is poisoning the wetlands so vital to the economy of the region, destroying the various fishing industries and proving once again that Mother Nature does not take human trifling with aplomb.

What to do next? My suggestion is to think totally outside the box and seal up the well permanently with a carefully controlled nuclear explosion, which would fuse the well head competely shut.
