The Penguins have signed right wing Nick Petersen (right), a fourth-round pick in 2009, to a three-year entry-level contract.

A teammate of defensemen Simon Despres, the team's first-round pick in 2009, with the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Petersen, 21, was Saint John's third leading scorer last season with 79 points (39 goals, 40 assists) in 59 games. Petersen, (6-foot-2, 186 pounds) led the team with a plus-46.

EN Says: Petersen is a shooter. And he's a wing. Two things the team needs. But don't expect to see him on Sidney Crosby's wing any time soon. He's still a year or two away from being considered a serious threat to land a regular NHL job.
