Plant a fall crop of lettuce now

This is a great time to plant a fall crop of lettuce. Lettuce is one of those crops you might plant six times a year or more.

The first step always is to improve the soil. That means adding organic matter like well-aged animal manure, compost, mushroom manure or dehydrated manure, whatever you can get your hands on.

Dig that in or pile it on top of the planting area and spread some fresh lettuce seed on the soi. Rake it in, add some water and don't let it dry out until germination.

You'll be havesting lettuce until frost. In an upcoming post, I'll tell you how to keep that lettuce going all winter in the garden.
