Wild woodland asters

asters

Sometimes gardeners can take a page from nature by looking at what's growing in their own backyard. I've been captivated by these wild white asters that cover the floor of the forest right now.  They are probably what early plant breeders used to come up with the modern, pretty asters that we plant in our garden beds. Creating a garden means filling it with plants that bloom at different times, when they can be the star of the show. Spring has daffodils, summer hydrangeas and fall has asters among other things. This is the start of the second planting season, bulbs, perennials, shrubs and trees should be planted this month. There are lots of plants that put on a show in the fall like asters. There are others like:

Bugbane, Blue Mist Shrub, sedum, cardinal flower, perennial hibiscus, purple coneflowers and more. Check out your local nursery, there are deals to be had in the fall.
