League approves of Coleman-crew call and vote for Rooney sale plan

Written by Dan Gigler on .

You read it from our Ed Bouchette first: Even though head linesman Paul Weidner initially planted his foot at the 1-foot line and the crew ruled the catch short of the end zone, referee Walt Coleman and crew were right -- upon further review -- to overturn that ruling and all Santonio Holmes' reception a touchdown in the Steelers' resulting 13-9 victory at Baltimore Sunday.

"By rule, his feet did not have to be down, however, when the ball crossed the goal line -- he had to be in possession of the ball when it broke the plane of the goal line and then, to complete the play, his feet had to touch the ground," Bouchette wrote.

Bouchette also reported that the NFL finance committee put the Rooney restructuring plan on the Wednesday agenda for an ownership meeting, asking the owners to consider it as presented.
