Greetings from another ugly day in Pittsburgh. Its in the mid 50s. Drizzling. Cloudy. Ugly. We love Pittsburgh, but this is one of those day were you wonder why you can't find a job in San Diego. They need hockey bloggers in San Diego right?
A few shots from our trek up from from the Chatham Center garage. Consol Energy Center on the FIfth Avenue Side:
-This is from this morning's skate. That gentleman in the red practice jersey is Sergei Gonchar:
-He's been sporting blue cast over his busted left wrist under his glove.
-Bloc Party's "Banquet" greets fans as they walk in:
-Unfortunate timing with IceTime tonight:
-We incorrectly wrote this afternoon that Jaroslav Halak has a 0-1-0 record against the Penguins in his career. We totally biffed on that. He has never played the Penguins.
-Hopefully for his sake, his encouter with the Penguins tonight goes better than this one with former Penguin and Slovakian teammate Tomas Surovy in last season's World Championships:
-Dan Bylsma mentioned this morning that he intends to used Chris Bourque a pretty fair amount on the second line with Evgeni Malkin tonight. Good. Bourque is not going to make it in this league if he's not given a shot as a first or second line type of player. He can't play on the fourth line with guys like Craig Adams and be successful at any level.
-Some sights around the arena. They have corn hole here now:
-Some Habs fans in the building. A Saku Koivu jersey:
-It must be tough guy night here for Penguins fans. Ulf Samuelsson:
-Bob "Battleship" Kelly:
-We'll have to double-check the jersey foul status on this one. Was Kelly around for this style of jersey?
-Mario Lemieux All-Star:
(We're not quite sure of the year. Sorry.)
-This guy's really going out on a limb and assuming Sidney Crosby's going to be on the Canadian Olympic team:
-The Penguins' scratches are Sergei Gonchar and Tyler Kennedy.
-Bad news for Georges Laraque fans. He's a scratch tonight along with Gregory Stewart.
-Marc-Andre Fleury and Jaroslav Halak are your starters in net.
-Two national anthems by Jeff Jimerson deserve two photos of national anthems by Jeff Jimerson. Canada:
