Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

THIRD PERIOD

20:00: The Senators have mercifully yanked Leclaire in place of Brian Elliott.

19:57: Right off the faceoff, Rupp and Neil go at it. You knew this was only a mtter of time. Neil, who is scared of no one, gores right after teh much larger player. Rupp holds him off and each player exchanges some right shots. It's a fairly wild bout that ends with Rupp's feet fall out. and he slips forward.

19:50: Bill Guerin has picked up an additional assist on Malkin's second goal.

19:09: Fedotenko tosses a wrister on net from the right wing. Elliott gloves it easily. As play is halted. Crakner goes after Adams, presumably for hitting Alfredsson. It's a brief, one-sided bout that ends with Carkner falling on top of Adams. Adams has had to fight some tough customers recently. Last week he got was tossed around by Philadelphia's Daniel Carcillo. Rupp is shown in the penalty box with a bag of ice on his right hand.

18:17: And the Penguins keep pouring it on. Cooke takes a puck off Staal in the corner on the right wing in Ottawa's zone. Cooke then dishes a pass to Gonchar moving into the slot. GOnchar snaps off a quick shot that beats Elliott on the blocker side. THis is unfair. Cooke and Staal get assist. The "Hey Song's" legs are rubbery at this point. Penguins 7-1.

16:17: Malkin picks up a loose puck on the right wing, gets behind Picard and chops a shot that hops over the net.

15:40: Dupuis tosses a wrister on net from a tough angle on the left wing. Elliott fights it off.

15:30: The comeback starts now for Ottawa! Tyler Kennedy is nabbed for holding. The Penguins' penlaty box is packed:

1501: Talbot takes the puck up ice, getting it deep on the right wing. He cuts insides Erik Karlsson with a nice move and rips a wrister that juuuust goes wide on the right of the net. What an effort by Tlabot.

14:06: Kovalev blasts a one-timer fromthe right point. Fleury fights it off.

13:27: Dear lord you will never see a prettier goal. Wow! As the penalty to Kennedy expires, Malkin steals the puck off a hapless hannon. at the right point. Malkin bumps him to the ice and that creates a two-on-NONE with Crosby. At this point, Ottawa should just forfeit the goal. Malkin moves up the right wing and dishes to Crosby at the right wing. Crosby then zips it back to Malkin who is able to tap it by the left foot of a helpless Elliott. Hats, including tonights, giveaway, a black and gold "Santa" hat, rain down. The Penguins should hold hat night every night. The "Hey Song" is played and mercifully pulled in favor of "Let It Snow." That was beyond pretty. Crosby gets the only assist. Penguins 8-1.

12:18: Neil tries to start something with Talbot. Rupp steps in and Neil seems less than interested in continuing his conversation with Talbot.

11:49: Donovan tires to again start something with Cooke. Cooke doesn't bite. DOnovan is shown the gate and goes to his locker room. Things like that are why Cooke is not a very respected playe around the league. Guerin, Rupp, Malkin, Goligoski and Letang take the ice.

11:28: A "GUERR-INNN! GUERRR-INNNN" chant start.

10:59: (Clap, clap, clap-clap-clap) "LET'S GO GUER-IN!" (Clap, clap, clap-clap-clap) "LET'S GO GUER-IN!"

10:42: And Guerin responds to that encouragement by serving a too many men on the ice penalty. Doh! Four-on-four for 53 seconds.

9:49: Donovan's minor is killed. The Senators have a power play for 1:07.

9:05: Staal and Dupuis create a two-on-one but lose control of the puck forcing too many passes

8:42: Guerin returns to the ice.

8:15: (Clap, clap, clap-clap-clap) "LET'S GO GUER-IN!" (Clap, clap, clap-clap-clap) "LET'S GO GUER-IN!"

8:04: Talbot makes a nice backhanded pass from the slot to Guerin on the right of the cage. Guerin sweeps it on net but Elliot is able to feed it off. The Penguins are doing everything they can to get Guerin that hat trick.

7:42: Fleury makes his first save in about 45 minutes as he denies Cheechoo in the slot off a nice feed by Ruutu from behind the cage. The only person missing on that play was Nashville's Jordin Tootoo.

6:29: Cheechoo feeds a pass to Kovalev in the slot. Kovalev snaps off a wrister from in tight but is denied by Fleury. Big save. Kovalev is having a terrible night.

6:18: Volchenkov drops Malkin with a hit on the right wing. He gets a tripping minor. That was kind of a bunk call. It seemed like a hip check. If anything, Malkin shouldv'e gotten a hand on the puck call as he glove the thing like an egg. Malkin, Crosby, Guerin, Goligoski and Letang take the ice.

5:59: ANd Guerin allllmost gets his hat trick. Crosby zips a pass to him from the left of the net to the other side of the crease. Guerin whacks at the puck but sends it out of play. Argh.

5:48: Guerin gets a wrister off from the left faceoff circle but misses the mark

5:34: Letang blasts a slapper from the left point. Guerin is there and attemps a re-direct but whiffs.

4:18: Volchenkov's penalty is killed. The Penguins actually looked pretty good there even though there's nothing really to play for other than Guerin's hat trick.

3:07: Kennedy blocks a wrister from the left point by Volchenkov.

3:00: "WE-WANT GUER-IN!" (clap, clap, clap-clap-clap) "WE-WANT GUER-IN!" (clap, clap, clap-clap-clap)

2:20: Guerin takes the ice to an ovation.

1:51: Don't go away folks. The Senators have narrowed this lead to a touchdown. Jesse Winchester dishes a pass to Kelly in the slot. Kelly turns and r ips a wrister that beats Fleury on the glove side. Heck of a shot. Winchester and Cheechoo get assists. An onsides kick here and the game is tied. Penguins 8-2.

1:09: Kunitz dishes a pass to Kunitz in the slot. The pass is a little to fast and misses Guerin totally.

0:25: Fleury turns away a backhander by Neil.

0:10: Fans offer a standing ovation.

0:00: End of game. The "Woo-Hoo" song is played. Penguins 8, Senators 2.
