Gonchar questionable - 01-01-10

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

Penguins defenseman Sergei Gonchar (right) left practice today after about 15 minutes. He looked fairly uncomfortable after being injured in Wednesday's game in New Jersey when he blocked a shot with his right foot. Gonchar leads all Penguins defensemen with 23 points (five goals, 18 assists) in 18 games. He is a minus-2.

Gonchar was not available to the media following the practice.

Dan Bylsma said of Gonchar:

"He was better today in terms of dealing with his injury, but wasn’t great on the ice. Without a morning skate tomorrow, it’s tough to think we’re going to have him. We’re hoping that he continues to progress, and if that’s the case, it could be a warm-up decision."

The Penguins play in Tampa Bay tomorrow at 3 p.m.
