Penguins recall forward Johnson, demote Curry - 01-23-10

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

Sorry for being late with this tonight. We tried to stay away from the computer today.

A day after demoting him, the Penguins have recalled forward Nick Johnson from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He made his NHL debut against the Capitals Thursday and scored a goal.

Johnson is expected to replace Maxime Talbot ("lower body") in the lineup. Talbot was injured Tuesday when Islanders goaltender Billy Smith Dwayne Roloson slashed his right leg and missed Thursday's game. Pascal Dupuis (head), who was also injured Tuesday, is expected to return to the lineup tomorrow. He missed Thursday's game.

With Marc-Andre Fleury expected to return to the lineup and start tomorrow in Philadelphia, the team demoted goaltender John Curry. In his only NHL appearance last Saturday, Curry was pulled after giving up five goals on 14 shots in Vancouver.

EN Says: We really liked what we saw from Johnson Thursday. He kept up with Evgeni Malkin and seemed to have a nose for the net. He was burnt while playing out of position on defense for a breakaway  that led to the game-winning goal, but it's kind of hard to blame him for not being able to defend the perfect pass.
