The calm before the storm

Things are already a little goofy with some signings and trades, but at noon today, everything pretty much devolves into an Andy Kaufman show when the free agency period officially begins.

Tune in to Empty Netters about that time as we try to make sense of what is sure to be a pretty hectic day for the Penguins who will probably have 10 unrestricted free agents on the market.

EMPTY NETTER ASSISTS

Penguins

-The Penguins are still trying to hang on to Marian Hossa.

 Atlantic Division

-The Flyers acquired defenseman Tim Ramholt from the Flames for forward Kyle Greentree.

-Philadelphia put defenseman Denis Gauthier, Jr. on waivers.

 Northeast Division

-The Sabres signed forward Paul Gaustad to a four-year deal.

-Buffalo is working on a contract extension for goaltender Ryan Miller.

 Southeast Division

The Capitals signed defenseman Mike Green to a four-year deal.

-The Panthers signed forward Rostislav Olesz to a six-year contract.

-The Lightning acquired defenseman Janne Niskala from the Flyers for a sixth-round pick in 2009.

-Tampa Bay is still trying to sign forward Brian Rolston.

-If nothing else, the Lightning's new owners are characters.

-After buying out Alexei Zhitnik, the Thrashers will be in the market for a top defenseman.

 Central Division

-The Red Wings signed defenseman Andreas Lilja to a two-year deal.

-The Blackhawks expect to go after some big names today.

 Northwest Division

-Oilers defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky wasn't exactly happy about being dealt from the Kings.

-It doesn't look like goaltender Jose Theodore will be returning to Colorado.

 Pacific Division

-The Sharks signed goon Jody Shelley to a two-year deal.

-It's looking likely the Ducks will sign restricted free agent Corey Perry.
