Alek Stojanov lives

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

Alek Stojanov's legacy is secure in Pittsburgh.

Markus Naslund isn't coming back to the Penguins so don't pull that old jersey you've had in mothballs. Naslund and Sabres defenseman Dmitri Kalinin have joined the Rangers.

EN Says: While this puts an end to the Naslund to Pittsburgh rumors, it gives a little steam to the Jaromir Jagr to Pittsburgh ones. Jagr's Rangers career is surely over now. (Update: Rangers general manager Glen Sather just said Jagr's done with the Rangers.)

Naslund offers 20- to 30- goal potential assuming he's teamed up with Chris Drury or Scott Gomez. And he doesn't come with the baggage Jagr does.

Kalinin is a third or fourth defenseman who can play some serious minutes and doesn't mind getting physical. He can be fragile at times however.

The Rangers have quietly re-tooled what was a pretty good team to begin with and in the process unloaded a lot of the drama players like Jagr and Sean Avery bring to the table.
