Jagr to Russia

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

You'll have to keep your Jaromir Jagr jersey in mothballs as well. He has signed with Omsk in the Russian Super League. The deal if for $35 million for only two years. Wow.

EN Says: It would've been nice and it would've been romantic to see Jagr come back here and close out his career on good terms, but it probably wouldn't have been practical on many fronts. Any contract with Jagr probably wouldn't have been cap friendly after some of the deal the Penguins have signed with some of their current players. Also, would Jagr be willing to play for someone like Michel Therrien? We saw how he dealt with a disciplinarian in Kevin Constantine.

Most importantly, would Jagr be willing to take a back seat to Sidney Crosby, Marc-Andre Fleury and Evgeni Malkin as the team's primary star? Especially in a market where he was the biggest fish in the pond?

That's aside, it's sobering and sad to imagine the NHL without Jaromir Jagr. He was as much a part of this league as Mario Lemieux, Steve Yzerman, Peter Forsberg, Joe Thornton and Sidney Crosby. Say what you will about the guy's personality, but there weren't too many other players who could keep you on the edge of your seat.

Update: Jagr told Mike Milbury to kiss his (butt).
