Ottawa signs Jason Smith

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

Flyers defenseman Jason Smith signed a two-year deal with the Ottawa Senators for $5.2 million.

EN Says: After losing Mike Commodore and Wade Redden, the Senators needed to find a way replace them on the blue line. Smith won't offer the offensive abilities Redden has, but he brings a nastiness and sense of defensive responsibility that Commodore did. Smith won't allow power forwards to set up shop in front of his goaltender and he's one of the best shot blockers in all of the NHL.
