Preseason schedule announced

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

The Penguins will play five preseason games, including one in Finland to kick off the 2008-09 schedule.

They will get to see some familiar faces in Ryan Malone, Gary Roberts and others when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first two games. The final game of the preseason will see them take on Jokerit of the Finland Elite League.

The schedule:

Sept. 20: Tampa Bay, 7:30 p.m.

Sept. 22: at Tampa Bay, 7:30 p.m.

Sept. 24: Toronto, 7:30 p.m.

Sept. 26: at Toronto, 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 2: at Jokerit, Finland, 11:30 a.m. (Eastern time)

The team also announced it will meet the Devils in its first regular season home game Oct. 11, 7:30 p.m. Additionally, with the NHL's new scheduling format, the Penguins will only play Atlantic Division opponents six times during the regular season instead of the eight meetings they have had the past three seasons. As a result, the Penguins will face each team in the Western Conference at least once. The Penguins will meet the Sharks, Red Wings and Blue Jackets twice in "at-large" games.
