NHL releases national television schedules

The "national" television (if you consider that cable access channel called Versus "national") schedules for the NHL were released today.

Versus' schedule can be viewed here. The Penguins will make eight appearances:

Oct. 5 2:30 pm Ottawa at Pittsburgh
Oct. 14 7:30 pm Philadelphia at Pittsburgh
Nov. 11 7:00 pm Pittsburgh at Detroit
Nov. 18 7:00 pm Minnesota at Pittsburgh
Dec. 8 7:30 pm Buffalo at Pittsburgh
Dec. 22 7:00 pm Pittsburgh at Buffalo
Jan.  5 7:00 pm Pittsburgh at NY Rangers
Mar. 3 7:30pm Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay

For you Canadian readers, here are the schedules for TSN and CBC.

If you're a Center Ice subscriber, the NHL Network is planning on broadcasting 75 games. Last season, games on that network were not available to Center Ice customers. Assuming that's the case this season, the NHL basically wants you to pay an extra fee in order to get those 75 games. And who says the NHL has a tough time reaching out to its fans?

NBC's "diverse" schedule of only Penguins, Rangers, Flyers or Red Wings games will begin with the Winter Classic between the Blackhawks and Red Wings on Jan. 1 and will continue on Jan. 18 with a Rangers-Penguins. The remainder of NBC's schedule will be flexible.

Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup final will be on Versus. Games 3 through 7 will be on NBC.

The All-Star Game will remain on Versus.
