According to Jonathan Bomboulie of the Wilkes-Barre Citizens Voice, the NHL Penguins recalled forward Janne Pesonen from their AHL affiliate. With Chris Minard also on the NHL Penguins' roster, two-thirds of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's top line is in the NHL.
We hate to speculate, but given how sketchy NHL injury reports are we can't help but wonder if this move was made due to Sidney Crosby's health. The Penguins' captain is day to day with an undisclosed injury. Of course considering that the Penguins only have two goals in their past two games, they could just be calling up Pesonen (right) for his style of play hoping he will spark a stagnant offense.
Pesonen is seen by some as a potential 20-goal scorer at the NHL level after the Penguins plucked him out of Finland in the offseason. He was demoted to the AHL out of training camp in order to get acclimated to the style of play in North America. He has nine points (two goals, seven assists) in seven games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season .
If nothing else, Pesonen and the Pens will be a very happy.
