Moving up - 1-25-09

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

It might take a bit of luck, but Evgeni Malkin has an outside chance at becoming the second-leading all-time scorer in All-Star game among Penguins representatives. He's only five points behind Jaromir Jagr entering tonight's game.

First place on that list is a bit of a stretch however. The Western Conference might have to play without a goaltender for Malkin to move up that high. And goals would have to count for like... two each.

UPDATE: There seems to be some sort of discrepancy between the figures the NHL has for Lemieux in all-star games and what the Penguins have. We went through every all-star game appearance listed in the team's media guide and catalogued his game-by-game performances. The Penguins credit Lemieux with 24 points (14 goals and 10 assists) while the NHL has him with 23 points (13 goals, 10 assists). So either the Penguins have it wrong or the NHL does:

Season Goals Assists Points
1984-85 2 1 3
1985-86 0 0 0
1987-88 3 3 6
1988-89 1 1 2
1989-90 4 0 4
1991-92 0 1 1
1995-96 0 2 2
1996-97 2 1 3
2000-01 1 1 2
2001-02 1 0 1
