-Are the Penguins using injures as an exuse?

-Ruslan Fedotenko has resumed skating.

-This is a mostly an article about the difference between the the Steelers and Eagles, but it's a good look at the difference between the fan bases in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. The biggest descrepancy is the heavy puppy population on the side of Pennsylvania closest to Ohio.

Atlantic Division

-Because life hasn't been rough enough for the Penguins as of late, the Rangers will start back up goaltender Steve Valiquette against Carolina tonight and will save all-star Henrik Lundqvist for an appearance at Mellon Arena Wednesday.

-The Penguins aren't the only battered Atlantic Division team that needed some time off. The Islanders used the All-Star break to heal bruised bodies.

-The Flyers don't want a repeat of their late season slump from 2007-08.

Northeast Division

-The Canadiens recalled defenseman Ryan O'Byrne from Hamilton of the AHL.

-Former Penguins forward Peter Mahovlich (right) might be the most underrated member of the Canadiens franchise ever.

-With goaltender Manny Fernandez feeling under the weather, the Bruins recalled goaltender Tuukka Rask from Providence of the AHL.

-The Sabres recalled defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani from Portland of the AHL.

-The Maple Leafs recalled forward Nikolai Kulemin and goaltender Justin Pogge from their AHL affiliate.

-The Senators are still trying to unload goaltender Martin Gerber.

Southeast Division

-The Capitals recalled defenseman Karl Alzner from Hershey of the AHL.

-Washington needs to forget about any supposed All-Star Lame Game snubs and concentrate on something more important - like the Stanley Cup.

-The Lightning recalled forward Steve Downie and goaltender Kari Ramo from Norfolk of the AHL.

-Tampa Bay still believes it can make the playoffs.

-Lightning forwards and former Penguins Ryan Malone and Mark Recchi (right) will have a decided rooting interest in some football game being played in their current neighborhood Sunday.

-Their team might stink, but Thrashers defensemen Tobias Enstrom and Niclas Havelid are having solid seasons.

-Hurricanes defenseman Niclas Wallin is dealing with an ankle injury.

-If the Panthers hope to reach the playoffs, they need goaltender Tomas Vokoun to step up.
