Belarus vs. Switzerland - 02-23-10

Written by Seth Rorabaugh on .

-It wasn't pretty, but Switzerland outlasted Belarus in a 3-2 shootout win and advanced to the quarterfinals where they get to face the United States.

-Jonas HIller was not sharp, at least early on. He needs to be the best goaltender in the world for Switzerland to have any hope against the United States.

-And as we saw in the 2006 Games, the Swiss are more than capable of riding a hot goaltender towards an upset of a superpower.

-Switzerland had a 43-22 lead in shots.

-Ivo Ruthemann led the game with seven.

-Aleksei Kalyuzhny led Belarus with four.

-Mark Streit led the game with 30:32.

-Ruslan Salei led Belarus with 26:52.

-Former Penguin Konstantin Koltsov had 25:05 of ice time, one shot and was a plus-1.

-Game summary.
