Kings acquire Halpern - 03-03-10

The Kings have acquired forward Jeff Halpern (above, fighting Brandon Dubinsky of the Rangers) from the Lightning in exchange for forward Teddy Purcell and a third-round pick.
Halpern, 33, has 17 points (nine goals, eight assists) and is a minus-13 in 55 games. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.
Purcell, 24, has six points (three goals, three assists) and is a minus-1 in 41 games. He is scheduled to become a restricted free agent in the offseason.
EN Says: We like the move for the Kings. They're a young team and there isn't a great deal of playoff experience on the roster. Halpern has played in more than a few playoff games and he's still a very good No. 3 center who can win faceoffs and kill penalties.
Purcell has shown an ability to be a 20-goal scorer at the AHL level. He has yet to show it at the NHL level.
