The Thrashers have acquired forward Clarke MacArthur (above) from the Sabres in exchange for conditional third and fourth round draft picks.
MacArthur, 24, has 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists) and is a minus-14 in 60 games. He is scheduled to become a restricted free agent after this season.
EN Says: This is an odd move for each team. We're not really sure who gained the most here.
The biggest impact to us from the Sabres' perspective is that they cleared out some salary. MacArthur did count $1.4 million against the cap.
For the Thrashers, they do pick up a player who has 20-goal potential but he has miles to go before he realizes that potential. But it doesn't help them out a great deal in terms of any potential run at a playoff spot this season.
It's just an odd move for both parties.
